[ARCHIVED] ISD Recycled Water Fill Station reopens June 3

Ironhouse Sanitary District (ISD) will reopen its Residential Recycled Water Fill Station beginning June 3. The Fill Station, open to all Oakley and Bethel Island residents as a free service, provides clean recycled water for outdoor irrigation use for backyard gardens, lawns and trees.

History has shown that despite the heavy rains this season having enough water is always going to be a concern in California. Using Ironhouse Sanitary District’s recycled water to irrigate lawns, trees and gardens can help residents do their part to conserve water throughout the hot summer months.

In June of 2015 the District opened a Residential Recycled Water Fill Station where residents could come to Ironhouse’s main offices in Oakley and collect water in containers to bring home for hand irrigation. Some residents went a step further and added small pumps, hoses and sprinklers for easier watering.

The District saw a decline in users last summer, as state’s water restrictions loosened, however there was still a good amount of local residents who were interested continuing to use recycled water for irrigation.

Although the District had hoped to remain open year-round, it decided to close the fill station until the ground dried out from the continued wet winter. State regulations require fill stations to close due to heavy rain and wet soil.

Over the past few weeks the District received call from several previous users asking when the Fill Station would reopen. Still the District is preparing for fewer residents interested in using recycled water now that the Governor has officially reported that the drought is over.

Once the fill station opens the summer hours will be reduced from last year’s six days a week to open three days a week. The new hours are Monday and Wednesday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Residents and businesses that live outside of Oakley and Bethel Island are welcome to use ISD’s Fill Station, however there is a fee for use of service for outside residents. Punch cards will be available for purchase at $25 for 25 loads of up to 300 gallons per load.

In celebration of re-opening the Residential Recycled Water Fill Station ISD is planning a Re-Grand Opening event on Saturday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will include a free barbecue lunch and more. This will be a great time for those who want to learn more about recycled water to come out and ask questions.

Ironhouse Sanitary District is located at 450 Walnut Meadows Drive, Oakley. Cross streets Rose Avenue, Main Street and Districts Way.
