[ARCHIVED] District receives highest award for financial accounting

Ironhouse Sanitary District has been awarded the “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States. For a government agency, this is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

As part of the participation in the award process, Ironhouse was required to complete a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the previous fiscal year. This was the first CAFR that Ironhouse had ever completed. The document was published for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.

The CAFR was divided into three sections, which included an introduction to the District, a financial audit report completed by an independent firm and statistical information about the District’s financial status.

The Government Finance Officers Association then selects an impartial panel of accounting professionals to judge the CAFR to make sure it meets the highest standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of nearly 19,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners. It provides top-quality publications, training programs, services, and products designed to enhance the skills and performances of those responsible for government finance policy and management. The association is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, with offices in Washington, D.C.

Ironhouse Sanitary District is an independent California Special District that provides wastewater and water recycle services for the City of Oakley and the unincorporated community of Bethel Island.

A copy of the CAFR can be found on the District’s website for review here.
